Meet the Team

The David and Lisa Cannon Family

Page written and created by daughter, Rachel Cannon

These are my parents, David and Lisa Cannon.

I’ve always admired my dad for his “go-getter” attitude, enthusiastic involvement in whatever he does, and commitment to his faith and principles. He has a witty sense of humor and likes to make homemade bagels in his spare time.

My mom is a logistics wizard- I’ve never met anyone who is better than she is at filling out paperwork, meeting deadlines, and being on-time. For these reasons, she’s a huge asset to every team she’s on and generously volunteers her time in the community. She’s never had a cavity.

They make a great team!

Southeast Idaho Roots

My dad’s parents, John Cannon and Alice (Schindler) Cannon were born on the same day- February 6, 1936- in the same town, Blackfoot, Idaho! They built successful southeast family businesses in construction and reclaimed wood with hard work, determination, and vision. These elements have shaped who my dad is as a person and will accompany him to the state capitol.

The Whole Crew

Above is a picture of my parents, David and Lisa, surrounded by kids Scott, Rachel (me), Tyler and his wife Neine and daughter Haylee, and Justin. We’re all on the campaign trail together and like to help out where we can. In fact, we don’t say it to his face, but the rest of us like to consider ourselves the “MVP’s” of the David Cannon for Idaho House campaign!

Absent from the above picture (pictured right) is Anahi, who married Justin soon after it was taken. Our family seems to be growing at an increasingly fast rate these days, and isn’t looking like it’s going to slow down anytime soon!

A running man-
in more ways than one

Growing up, my siblings and I loved to play tennis, basketball, and other sports with my dad. We also loved to accompany my parents when they ran together at the high school track every evening in the summer. My dad would often time us running a mile and he had a system that motivated us; the first time we ran a mile faster than 7 minutes, he would buy us a few ounces of chocolate. The first time we ran a mile faster than 6 minutes, he would give us 50$. The first time we ran a mile faster than 5 minutes, he would give a college scholarship or take us on a trip. The family competition was a motivating force in my running for years to come as I ran throughout high school and into college for BYU. My dad’s companionship and support are a huge part of my little love story with running.

Granddaughter Haylee

On February 17th, 2018, my dad gained the new title of Grandpa. He and Haylee Cannon have a great little friendship; wherever they go together, they bring a little bit of spunk and mischief.

"To every man there comes in his lifetime that special moment when he is figuratively tapped on the shoulder and offered a chance to do a very special thing, unique to him and fitted to his talents. What a tragedy if that moment finds him unprepared for that which could have been his finest hour."

The above quote from Winston Churchill is a favorite of my dad’s. For years, he has been preparing to represent Idaho through service, commitment to his values, education, seizing opportunities as they came his way, and demonstrating integrity in everything he does. I truly believe that he is the perfect man for the job.
